The screwdriver should have a blade width of at least 14 mm (maximum 16 mm). This is because the use of a too small screwdriver will damage the plug or the cross recess and thus make removal impossible. The plugs fit tightly due to a special sealing ring and this tightness is essential to ensure maximum safety with respect to electrostatic discharges, as such discharges can trigger a sparkover in the battery, which in the worst case can cause oxyhydrogen gas in the battery to explode.
