System Programming (ISP)

In-system programming (ISP), also called in-circuit serial programming (ICSP), is the ability of some programmable logic residues, microprocessors and other embedded devices to be programmed when installed in a complete system, rather than programming the circuit before installing in the system or mounted on the circuit board

This means that firmware updates can be delivered to the chip memory late in the production process, which in turn reduces the risk of incorrect installation and provides the opportunity for customization and calibration at the individual level.
