Isopropyl alcohol
Isopropanol (Isopropyl alcohol, 2-propanol, IPA) is used as a solvent and cleaning agent in many different contexts. Isopropanol dissolves grease, resins, ink, wax and other impurities and is excellent for cleaning electronic parts and components. It dissolves most fluxes and is often used to clean circuit boards before and after soldering.
Examples of products containing isopropanol:
- Alcohol-based fluxes
- Hand sanitiser
- Cleaning sprays of various kinds
- Disinfectant
Isopropanol is always good to have on hand and can be used concentrated or diluted with water (preferably deionized) to use as a cleaner that leaves no residue behind. By mixing isopropanol, water and a surfactant (wetting agent such as a little washing-up liquid), you get a cheap and effective cleaning agent. One part isopropanol and two parts water is a good starting point.
Isopropanol should not be used on surfaces that have a thin and delicate surface treatment such as photographic lenses. In that case, it must be diluted to a low concentration.
We sell several versions of isopropanol in different packages from 1 litre to 200 litre drums.
